How I shoot a wedding

I shoot weddings the way I'd want my own filmed: a real film built around the moments that made the day yours. Anywhere in the world.

We talk first. About the people, the day, and the things that matter to you that won't be on the schedule. Then I stay small on the day so you stay present, and I record sound like it's the story, because it is. Without sound it's a montage. With sound it's a memory.

This film is a reflection of Bailey and Derek as they are. It's about energy and ease. About laughing when the officiant forgot the order of the ceremony. About choosing to fly across the country for their first, second and third date.

Their relationship grew in transitions: cars, temporary places, hellos followed by goodbyes. A reception inside the timeless walls of The Capitol Room, a ceremony at Chankaska Creek Ranch, and film locations as far out as Raleigh. The multi-city story is what made it.

From the moment they met, dancing with friends, to the unwavering dedication of a long-distance relationship where Zach visited nearly every week, their love was always going to end up somewhere like this.

Set against Atelier Playa Mujeres in Cancun, the waves kissed the shore and the sun set in golden hues. I try to make films that aren't recordings. They're experiences you can walk back into.
